Uganda is a country in full growth, full of opportunities. Yet it cannot yet truly deliver on its promises. Despite stable GDP growth of more than 5% annually over the last 20 years (not counting the Covid 19 period), as much as 41% of the population still lives in poverty (at less than $1.9/day). 78% of the population is made up of young people. Formal jobs are almost non-existent for them and therefore they often end up in informal, poorly paid, unsafe jobs. A major problem in the job market is the gap between what the youth have learned and what is really needed in the workplace. USSIA, the Uganda Small Scale Industries Association, is trying to close this gap, with support from the Belgian NGO Trias.
