Context

In rural South Kivu, women actively participate in the economic and productive life of their communities. Unfortunately, they do not have equal access to resources such as land and credit and are often excluded from decision-making processes. Why, 84% of the population lives below the poverty line and many women have never been to school. Supporting them in their process of social and economic emancipation therefore involves strengthening their skills in order to make them more autonomous. One of the solutions? Literacy training.

Purpose

To open and support 20 literacy centres, each with at least 20 learners who will follow the first levels of courses. These centres will serve, among other things, as a lever for greater equity for women in entrepreneurship while raising awareness of their rights and their environment.

Why OVO believes in this project

Learning to read and write is the bridge to women's social and economic empowerment. It is simultaneously a lever for greater equality for women in entrepreneurship.

Social impact

400 women will attend literacy courses at levels 2 and 3. As a result of the course, the number of women in key positions in community decision-making bodies is increasing, they are gaining self-esteem and are more enterprising.
