Context

In rural South Kivu, women actively participate in the economic and productive life of their communities. Unfortunately, they do not have equal access to resources such as land and credit and are often excluded from decision-making processes. Why, 84% of the population lives below the poverty line and many women have never been to school. Supporting them in their social and economic empowerment means strengthening their skills to make them autonomous. One solution? Functional literacy.

Purpose

Supporting 25 literacy centers, consisting of 25 learners each who will take Level 2 and 3 courses. These centers will leverage greater equality for women in entrepreneurship while raising awareness of their rights and their environment. 26400 individuals, consisting of family members of the learners will be indirectly benefited.

Why OVO believes in this project

Learning to read and write is the bridge to women's social and economic empowerment. It is simultaneously a lever for greater equality for women in entrepreneurship.

Social impact

84% of the 625 participants in the literacy course are women. Thanks to the course, the number of women in key positions in community decision-making bodies is increasing, they are gaining self-respect and are more entrepreneurial.
