Despite positive growth of 5-7% annually in GDP, many Tanzanians still live in poverty. There are enormous problems with underemployment and "working poor. For about 800,000 Tanzanian youth who enter the labor market each year, there are only 100,00 formal jobs. The rest end up in the informal economy, where they earn far too little, and have to work under poor conditions. Young people and women are even more vulnerable because they usually have no access to land, capital or training. Beyond being paid little, they often have to work in unsafe conditions, without any form of social security. Trias and the local chambers of commerce are joining forces so that these women can work in humane conditions.
